An effective 4-step method for developing resilience in students

For the last few years anxiety, stress & depression has been seen as a very common phenomenon among students. Some of them might be struggling to manage the academic pressure while a few are probably battling against social expectations. Whichever be the case, the bottom-line fact remains that students are finding it hard to cope with these stressors of their life. In this step, the educator must introduce coping skills & conscious efforts for minimizing stress. Here, due emphasis is given to being positive & constructive. Students should be aware of the specific ways to channelize their emotions appropriately.

However, all the coping skills practically cannot always be structured & have prescriptive. Hence, each student needs to understand the exact meaning of coping skills. Also, they should be reminded that each scenario, emotion & related aspects would be unique & need specific capabilities to deal with. Ultimately they should be able to replace their actual reactions with these positive coping strategies against each stressor.

Step 4: Practical execution & continuance of coping skills

This step is more like an ongoing activity. An educator must gather feedback & sharing of experiences on a periodic basis when students apply their coping skills. This window should also grant them the opportunity to seek advice from their peers. Here, educators also have to keep an informal check & extend their added support to students who need it the most.
